'Market Scene, Jaffa,' is typical of Frank Brangwyn's work of the late 1890s with an expanse of plain sandy ground foreground and the lively bustle of a covered market set against the bleached city walls.

Somehow I had not imagined that in 2021 we would be talking about Kaliningrad as a potential launching pad for medium-range Russian missile strikes on Sweden.

Great analysis & summary @adam_tooze of German traffic-light coalition agreement - I agree with his conclusion: "the success or failure of this government will tell us a lot about the capacity of sophisticated democracies around the world to adapt to our 21st-century polycrisis"
