This is probably counterintuitive for people who think we can all share everything, but closing off access actually can lead to more care and more robust culture. Cc @normonics
Puts me in mind of this brilliant piece: leanlogic.online/closed-acce… "You cannot get out of a globalised world, because there is no out. Closed access does not mean closed-in, it means the protection of distinctiveness: when you are out, you are somewhere else, in a different in."

Sensemaking is affective, bodily, pleasurable and at times agonising. This cottage industry of 'sensemakers' who are stoic, reserved and “rational” are actually privileging a very narrow western understanding of things. And an old Western one at that.

People criticize me of wanting to ‘go back’ in time. It’s not true. I want to bring forward the things that worked in the past.

COVID mutations and climate breakdown both indicate the need to rapidly end the Global North / Global South inequity. Time to realize we actually are all in this together, and act like it.

Focus on what you want to build. Look away from the evil. Acknowledge it once, look away. Focus on the goal. Focus on the good you can create. Here. On Twitter. Strengthen the things which remain.

Canada is a country that wakes up to find whole towns and key infrastructure destroyed by climate change, and the VERY FIRST thing it does is send in the militarized cops to arrest the only people standing in the way of its oil and gas corporations expanding their footprint.

A piece of democracy died in BC today. The @bcndp has passed a law that will make gov't more secretive, violating the public's right to know. And what's maddening is there are gov't members who could have done more to stop it but didn't. #bcpoli #cdnpoli bc.ctvnews.ca/b-c-ndp-passes…

Dear settlers, something you *can* engage on is buying beadwork (for fair prices!) or doing mutual aid. You can do this every day. It's great. Check out the hashtag #SettlerSaturday for mutual aid. Check out the retweets from this account for buying beadwork!

"If I could ask one thing from my non-indigenous fellow Americans when it comes to Thanksgiving, I would ask that you refrain from teaching the romanticized version of the holiday. Read to your children about what it means to be thankful, what it means to heal and be a family."

The problem with the “confront your family about politics on Thanksgiving” thing isn’t that we can’t influence our families or shouldn’t have those conversations, it’s thinking one tense dinner will do it. Long, compassionate faithfulness > “bold” one-time confrontation.

Well, somewhere between the emergency ward and the operating room, I quietly accumulated 4000. So... What happens now? Does Twitter send me a commemorative plaque? and what do I say to all these people?

On your 'invisible hand' point, one of the main issues for me is the vision of economy it produces -- the concept of 'trustlessness' is key to crypto, for example, basically outsourcing interpersonal relation, which I see as inimical to degrowth

A great thread all the way down.
Was just revisiting the crypto ur-text "Meditations on Moloch," the basis for crypto-land's reading of Moloch as the "god of coordination failure." I read Ginsberg's Moloch differently. slatestarcodex.com/2014/07/3… [thread]

#OfflineFirst, baby. So empowering.
"As a developer and agroforester I often think about what an agroforestry tool could look like. As we’re dealing with land, a map interface comes to mind, but the challenge of having a good offline experience arises as that’s a reality for many farmers." wp.digital-democracy.org/map…

In a society run by people doing everything they can to divide us, maintaining relationships with those we disagree with is revolutionary.
